BALOCHISTAN:
Following is the latest update of relief activities in Balochistan
carried out by SPO Turbat, Naseerabad and Sibi
SPO Turbat
July 6-7, 2007
-
SPO provided logistic support and information
and arranged visits to the affected areas of local NGOs and
INGOs (CWS, MSF Belgium, Partnership Aid International and
Muslim Aid) that arrived in the area recently
-
Two medical camps were established in union
council Koshkalat by the help of Family Planning Association of
Pakistan and Red Crescent doctors. 250 patients were treated and
provided medicines
-
SPO Turbat provided logistic support to Save
the Children UK. Identified distribution points at 8 schools in
Koshkalat. 16 volunteers were also identified and a meeting was
held with Save the Children UK and the mechanism of distribution
shared with the volunteers. Orientation meeting was conducted
with the volunteers as well

3 water pump generators were installed in
union council Koshkalat with the help of Partnership Aid
International
-
270 pairs of shoes were distributed in union
council Koshkalat with the help of Partnership Aid International
-
Cooked food was distributed in union council
Koshkalat to 8 villages with the help of Partnership Aid
International
-
3 medical camps were facilitated in terms of
logistics, human resource and volunteers in union council Pidark

SPO facilitated MSF
Belgium in collecting data about health and sanitation and
provided logistic support. Union councils Kumbail and Jan Mond
Bazar of Tehsil Dasht were visited

16 volunteers were
selected and divided into 4 groups for the purpose of
registration and distribution of food and non food items
-
Registration process
was completed in 247 affected households in North Koshkalat and
224 affected households in South Koshkalat
-
Tokens were
distributed to these households for food and non food items
July 9-10, 2007
- In union council Koshkalat, registration process was
completed in 7 villages with the help of volunteers
- Volunteers completed registration process in union council
Gokdan
- A meeting of volunteers was held in union council Gokdan and
food distribution plan was shared with them
- A meeting was held with Save the Children UK after which it
was decided to visit those villages of union council Pidark
which had not been accessed until now due to high level of water
- Support was provided to MSF Belgium for their visits to
Ormara, Pasni and Hoshab
- In a meeting of SPO, CWS and SAP-PK, distribution of 1000
food packages was finalized
- With the help of partner organizations in District Awaran,
data was collected for Awaran, Gishkore and Jahoo and sent to
SPO Karachi
- A briefing of Kariz system was given to Partner Aid
International since they are interested in cleaning this system
- The team of Red Crescent Society was facilitated in its
visits to Koshkalat and Gokdan
- 20 volunteers were selected for union council Pidark who
will carry out the registration process and distribution points
were identified in the union council
SPO Naseerabad
July 6-8, 2007
-
394 patients were
treated between July 6 and 8 in the medical camp set up by SPO
and Peace Balochistan. This included 130 women and 126 children
-
Food supplies and
cooked rice was distributed in 4 villages
July 9, 2007
(Activities Sponsored by
Care International in Kot Palyani, Union Council Garhi Rehman,
District Naseerabad)
- In the medical camp a total of 235 patients were treated,
out of which 128 were women and girls for diseases like fever,
snake bites and diarrhea.
- Medicines worth rupees 11,000/ were used.
- A meeting with District Flood Control Unit was held and the
unit was briefed about the relief activities of SPO sponsored by
Care International
- A mechanism was developed for the distribution of shelters
and non food items
July 10, 2007
(Activities Sponsored by Care International in
Shahdad Khan Rind and Alifabad, Union Council Kohna Tambu, Tehsil
Tambu, District Naseerabad)
- In the medical camp, 70 patients were treated for diarrhea,
skin infections, sun stroke, malaria and cough. Out of these, 38
were girls
- Field team conducted assessment in 19 villages of union
council Kohna Tambu for distribution of shelter and non food
items
- Meetings with representatives of UNICEF, NCHD, EDO Health
and other government officials were held and they were briefed
about the relief activities of SPO and Care International
SPO Sibi
July 6-10, 2007
- Tents were distributed in 2 villages of District Bolan.
- Data was collected for 7 villages of District Bolan
- Food supplies were received from SPO Quetta to be
distributed among the affectees
SINDH:
Following is the latest update of relief
activities carried out by SPO Karachi:
SPO Karachi
July 6-10, 2007
- CWS provided 13 trucks of food that reached Turbat and
distribution started for 1,000 families in union council Gokdan
of District Kech
- SPO Karachi facilitated CWS team for water, sanitation and
health assessment in District Kech
- Meetings of Humanitarian Relief Forum were attended
regularly for updates and future relief work
- SPO coordinated with many NGOs and donors for support
- Proposal was submitted to “Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking
Corporation” for food supply to 1,000 families of tow union
councils in District Awaran
